Celebrate: A Modern DIY Black & White Halloween

I can’t believe Halloween is around the corner and for the first time EVER, we live in a neighborhood where our neighbors’ kids will come knocking on the door.  Monkey wont know what’s happening, but our Big Boy has celebrated Halloween a few times and has an idea what to expect.  The one this he does not like is spooky.  So I’ve been looking around for inspiration for some DIY decorations and crafts that capture the spirit of Halloween but aren’t scary. Here, I’ve pulled together some of my favorite DIY ideas that are simple, modern and chic.

1. Pacman Bunting from here. The kids may not get the retro reference to Pacman, but all the parents will remember their favorite arcade game.

2. No-Carve Chalkboard pumpkins from here. I love the idea of the no-carve pumpkin.  For one, pumpkins are tough so they can be pretty tough to cut through.  Two, who really wants to scoop out all the goo.  Three, no rotting pumpkin!

3. Glow in the dark globes from here.  Since the link to the project is a dead end, I have to put my thinking cap on for how to pull this one off, but I think it will involve pantyhose.

4. Paper mis-fortune cookies from here.  For the kiddos, I think these paper “cookies” will need to be filled with a little treat. Just sayin”.

5. Bat headband from here.  This one is perfect for me.  I’m not big on costumes for myself, but would love a little nod to the occasion that’s not a T-shirt.
