Recently our family has started watching Treehouse Masters on Animal Planet. The show’s host and principal designer is Pete Nelson, the kind of person that every kid would love to have as a dad, he’s not only super nice, but builds fantastic treehouses. Not to be out done by a TV show, Hubby has started to hatch a plan to build the boys their own treehouse.
The trees on our property are not ideal for a traditional treehouse, but we have found a space, in between trees that would work nicely for a small structure. I agreed with him that building a treehouse would be wonderful for the boys, so I started collecting ideas for cool modern treehouses. If we are going to build something, I want it not only to be functional, but to fit in with the overall aesthetic of the house.
Here are some designs that have really caught my eye:
The design I am leaning towards the most is the one with the red chairs by Mod Frugal. It has a simplicity that seems achievable paired with a modern design. The other designs are beautiful, but seem aided by architects and contractors, something not in our budget for the boys’ treehouse. Ours wont be as high up. We don’t have the kind of lot where we don’t see neighbors for miles and miles. So we need to keep it fairly unobtrusive, more like a club house on stilts.
As a child, I always dreamed of having a treehouse, but living in an apartment in Paris wasn’t exactly ideal. I had to make do with building forts in my bedroom out of sheets.
