What I love most about these ideas is their restrained color palette and scandinavian vibe. Want something a bit more glam?  Check out last year’s inspiration for a wintery Holiday party with super cute DIY Holiday Pompom Straw.

Inspiration: Modern White Farmhouse Exterior

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

The minute I saw our Farmhaus I knew I wanted to modernize and brighten it up.  Everyone I know thought I would want to make it grey.  They know I love grey.  But every house and space has its own story to tell and I didn’t think grey was what I wanted here.  Instead, I want white, inside and outside.

I am very inspired by these clean, modern white farmhouse exteriors.

Our house isn’t as grand as these houses, but I think a coat of white paint will give it a huge facelift.  Also, did you notice that all these houses have a standing seam metal roof?  LOVE! Unfortunately that’s completely out of the question. Replacing our roof with a standing seam roof would cost two and a half times the price of asphalt shingles.  Complete budget buster! Though I’m told that a standing seam roof is more durable.  So, I guess in the long run it could be worth it, but with all the other fixes we need to make, I need to manage costs wisely.

Since our house has cedar shingle siding and we’re putting in a new shingle roof, I think the overall effect will be similar to this one below once painted. Ours will have a darker roof, black windows (existing) and black fascia gutters, for a slightly more modern look.

Here’s the modern farmhouse moodboard I’ve put together for our place.

Do you like where I’m going with this?

tania - what is your recommendation for painting a white farm house-paint for hardy board if you have bought a standard white garage door and don’t want blinding white/too stark or yellowy undertones?

isadorag - Hi Tania,
I haven’t tackled the exterior paint of our Farmhaus yet, but the white I keep coming back to is White Dove by Benjamin Moore.
Good luck. Let me know what you end up picking.

Christina McMaster - Hi:). Can I have the source for the last picture posted? Love it!

isadorag - Hi Christina,
All images which are not my own have a link below the image to the image source.

CELEBRATE: A Modern Organic Thanksgiving Inspiration

And just like that it’s goodbye Halloween and hello Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving.  It’s not about the presents, it’s just about family and friends.  This year is extra special as one of my cousins, whom I haven’t seen in more than 20 years, is going to celebrate the occasion with us. This will be her first Thanksgiving in the U.S. as she and her family just moved here a few months ago. With that in mind, I really want to make their first Thanksgiving memorable, so my mother and I will start planning the menu soon.  While Thanksgiving is about family, food and taking a moment to reflect on our blessings, it wouldn’t be complete for me without a nice table scape. This year I’m inspired to keep the look very organic and natural.  Maybe all the time I’ve been spending at the Farmhaus is having and effect on me, but I definitely don’t want any glitz at the table, just warm, natural colors and textures.

Before: The Farmhaus Tour

A short while ago I shared that a dream of ours had come true.  We are the proud owners of a little farmhouse in Sonoma County, that we affectionately call The Farmhaus.

I thought it was about time to take you on a little tour of our little slice of heaven.  The house is  1200+ sq ft,  2 bedroom 1 bathroom on 1.5 acres of land.  It’s not tiny, but it’s not big.  1.5 acres may not seem like a lot to some, but for Hubby and I who have grown up in cities, 1.5 acres is ENORMOUS and we’re not entirely sure how we are going to make the best use of the land.

Here are some before pictures.  As you can see it’s kinda charming, but kinda not.  The best thing about it is all the beautiful mature trees on the property. I’ve been told we have cypress, redwoods, chestnut, walnut, oak, willow and a few fruit trees.

The inside isn’t nearly as charming as the outside.  I have big plans to remedy that, but need to be very careful with the budget.  It is a farmhouse afterall.

The project we’ve decided to tackle first is transforming the rather large, dysfunctional bathroom into two smaller, but more functional bathrooms.  I drew up the plans and pulled the permits and we’ve done quite a bit of demo.

You can check out the demo we did on that bathroom wall.  I’ll be posting updates, but if you want more insights into the day to day progress of the project as we demo and rebuild, follow along on Instagram.  It’s going to be fun transforming this little gem.

CELEBRATE: A Modern DIY Halloween Party

I still can’t believe it’s October and that Halloween is around the corner, before we know it it’s going to be Christmas! Yikes. Well, I don’t have the power to slow down time, but I do have the power to choose to keep things simple.  So, for Halloween these are my favorite ideas for a Modern DIY Halloween Party that look great, but are not time consuming to pull off.
