Retail Therapy: Cozy Modern Fire Pit Roundup

When you think of California it is often accompanied by visions of sunshine.  So when you think of the Bay Area, most people think of it looking like this:

But in reality summers can often look like this:

So Hubby and I have been fantasizing about creating a cozy place to chillax around a fire pit.

We often hang out in our backyard, but our front yard doesn’t see much action.  So, we’ve decided that the front yard, or more specifically the front porch, will be the ideal place to create a cozy and warm spot by the fire.

I’ve been on the look out for clean lined, modern fire pits and thought I’d share a few of my favorites.

Our final choice will be driven by a few factors: 1) Price – we are budget conscious and don’t want to spend too much, 2) Practicality – we are leaning towards propane, easy to shut off and safer around our kids, and 3) Design – of course design is important, but it is not the most important part of the mix.  We need it to comfortably fit our rectangular space, while allowing for a good amount of seating, plus we want it to serve as a table when not in use.  That’s a lot of requirements, I think all of these meet two of the three requirements, but none meet all three.

So, the search continues.  Which one is your favorite?

Monica Schneider - I like your article on fire pits. Which did you finally decide on? I am looking for one that is modern for logs but want a large one – having trouble finding a nice one that is big enough for 5 chairs to go around.

isadorag - Hi Monica,

Ultimately, I didn’t pick any of them. My ideal firepit would have been a taller/rectangular version of #2. Because of where I was putting it, I needed something rectangular. RH has great designs similar designs similar to #2 in a rectangular version, but all of them are low to the groud and require you to keep the propane tank externally under a separate tank cover. I didn’t want anyone to trip over the gas line from the tank so I wanted a design that could fit the tank inside the table. If you want logs, my favorite one is #6, but it might be too small for fitting 5 chairs around. Good luck with your search.

Best,
-isadora
